Sometimes you are an intern. Sometimes you go on a retreat with your team. And you think it's one night but it's actually a three day retreat. Sometimes you only pack one pair of jeans and fuzzy suede heels and its 110 degrees outside. Sometimes you forget your curling iron so you have to walk around Palm Springs with wooly mammoth hair and you know you're freaking out and being completely irrational for no reason. I wish I could say this was the only story like this in my portfolio, but I am a seasoned professional in this department. Basically you just have to freak out for a second, pray, a lot, let yourself be irrational for about 5 minutes, and then shake it off. What can you really do? It's life. It's just how real life goes. You lose your keys, you forget a meeting, you break a heel, scratch your car, crack your new sunglasses, forget to save the five page essay you've been typing. Satan will go after you with little jabs. And believe me, oh mamma does it work sometimes. Sometimes you just kind of lose your stuff over something small and ridiculous. Because it's real life. No one has it all together. Life isn't always a Pinterest board of perfect hair and climate appropriate outfits. It's a mess. The key is to practice walking in the Holy Spirit when you're not having a day where your favorite earrings fall down the shower drain, so that when life happens, you're ready. Ok not actually ready, you'll never be like truely ready, but the result of abiding in the Spirit isn't a meltdown and punching people in the face. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is patience, gentleness, and self control. These days are coming. You're going to spill coffee all over your new shirt and get locked out of your car and drop your notebook in a puddle. It's going to happen. You'll get frustrated. You'll freak out. But if you're walking in the Spirit, that's what will come through when it all goes down. You have to sit down and have a chat with Jesus when you can't pull it together, because He can pull it together. He's the only one who can ever really pull it together. So don't let Satan get you with the little jabs. Life is going to happen. You have to roll with the punches and let God pull it all together for you.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience , kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
